Arts Alliance for the North West Interlake - The Idea

The North West Interlake is hungry for Arts and Cultural Activities. While each community offers specific events at various times of the year and other organization offer specific workshop and opportunities; better coordination and more programs could be initiated with an Arts Alliance. Currently, residents have to travel great distances to access various arts programs. The Arts Alliance would enhance the lives of these and many other individuals by bringing such programs into their communities and eliminating the issue of travel. Furthermore, with the initiation of additional programs and more Arts and Cultural activities, communities in our area would prove themselves not only more attractive for its residents but would entice those considering a move, thus increasing potential for tourism.

We are proposing development of an Arts Alliance. This will be unique to Manitoba, it will work under the umbrella of the Lakeshore Recreation Commission. This will benefit the community, as one organization will over see both the sports and arts programs within all the Interlake communities. A major plus for this alliance is that it will be cost effective, utilizing the same research, communication and resources.

Our goals are:

• To create partnerships with existing organizations while they maintain their autonomy, and to encourage new artistic ventures
• To be a course of communication for new and existing art programs and special events.
• Plan new and exciting events in our communities.

Mission

The Inland Oceans Arts Alliance communities are currently rich with pockets of arts and culture. Our mission is to actively share our talents and abilities with one another. Working together will enable us to bring numerous cultural and artistic experiences to a greater number of people and communities and enhance existing organizations.

Who is A Community Arts Alliance?

YOU ARE...A community arts alliance is made up of residents who are interested in having a vibrant community and an improved quality of life for themselves and their families -- People just like you, who are interested in helping us plan Arts and Cultural events. Each Arts Alliance is unique - as unique as the communities it services.

Why a Community Arts Alliance?

What could a Community Arts Alliance do for your community?

• Improve the quality of life.
• Co-ordinate existing arts programs and organizations
• Develop long-term educations programs in dance, music, theater, visual and literary arts.
• Assist local artists in further developing their talent.
• Animate overall interest and commitment to the arts.
• Help to develop new arts organizations and facilities such as a community theater group(s, a community choir, or an arts center.
• Present residents with the opportunity to take part in meaningful developmental activities that provide life skills.
• Make your community a more attractive place to live in, to move into and to stay in.

The Organization - How will this work?

Inland Oceans Arts Alliance Advisory Committee will send reports to the Lakeshore Recreation Commission Board of Directors through the Recreation and Wellness Facilitator. They will operate independently of the Commission, but with the support of the Recreation Commission staff and Recreation Commission Board.

How would this work - how would programming be provided to several communities?

• Organize summer art camps in a variety of communities
• Rotate events among the various Communities

• The available venue in the community
• At the beginning of the year with community input, plot out a master plan trying to cover as many communities as possible.
• Accommodate the interests of the communities.
